The secret to a truly amazing vacation is finding a spot that is still relatively unknown. Unless you want to spend the entire duration of your trip fighting off tourists and waiting on lines, you will bode much better off in a relatively unknown area.
The problem here is that many people simply do not know where to look. That’s where I come in. I have traveled all over the world and I’ve managed to visit some of the most beautiful places that this world has to offer. To help you along in finding the perfect “secret” place to visit, I compiled a list of 7 Mediterranean islands that everyone should find the time to visit before the tourists ruin them for good.
Not only is it the smallest island in Dodecanese, but it’s also the most beautiful by far. Vacation seekers can only reach it by ferry or air from Rhodes, which means that it is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Greek city life.
Taveuni Island, Fiji
I was unprepared for just how beautiful Taveuni island would be. A mountainous landscape covered by tropical rainforest and plenty of hidden waterfalls to explore.
Nicknamed “The Garden Island” due to the incredible amount of vegetation you’ll find there, Taveuni is the 3rd largest of Fiji’s 300+ islands. Compared to others it has very little development.
A majority of Taveuni’s flora fauna are protected by two nature preserves and a national park.
Visiting is usually accomplished in a small propeller plane, and doing so allows you to see Fiji’s numerous colorful islands from the air. This is a worthwhile experience in itself. Taveuni’s Matei Airport is just a shack with a few benches under a roof acting as a terminal.
The capital city of Honduras is dirty, dangerous, and expensive. Just the type of place most people try to avoid. So naturally I decided to go urban exploring and check it out.
When I began this little travel adventure of mine, I told myself I wanted to see everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Curiosity is part of my DNA. Happy places are only one part of the whole story.
After hearing rumors that Tegucigalpa was a dangerous city, of course I want to learn more about it first-hand. In my experience most “dangerous” rumors are exaggerated quite a bit.
But that doesn’t mean one should completely forgo basic common sense.
How would it feel if you were made to eat the world’s most delicious spread of food with no view of the outside, but plain brick walls that stared back at you? San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala
While traveling through Guatemala I spent 3 weeks taking Spanish classes and staying with a local family on Lake Atitlan. Here’s a rundown of my experience.
Guatemala is one of the best countries in the world to visit if you’d like to learn Spanish. It’s not too far from the United States, classes are inexpensive, and locals naturally speak slowly without using too much slang.
Plus, if you’d like to learn Spanish fast, there’s no better way then to be totally immersed in the culture language for an extended period of time.
I decided to study in the town of San Pedro La Laguna on Lake Atitlan, located in the Guatemalan Highlands of the Sierra Madre mountains.
This massive lake is surrounded by volcanoes, colorful wildflowers, and traditional Maya villages. A picture perfect setting to learn Spanish.
Beqa Island, Fiji
Shark diving without a cage. Sounds insane, right? That’s what I thought too. Turns out sharks aren’t the terrifying monsters we think they are.
For millions of years sharks have slowly evolved into nature’s most deadly assassins. Lethal eating machines with razor sharp teeth, lightning-quick speed, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood!
(Ok, I made that last part up.)
But we’ve all seen the movie “Jaws” — and Hollywood doesn’t lie. It’s why thousands of people around the world suffer from Selachophobia. Fear of sharks.
But who can blame them? Why on earth would any rational person swim in the ocean not knowing what man-eating creatures may lurk beneath the waves?
As for those who purposefully seek out the company of sharks — they clearly have a death wish.

Panama City, Panama
This is the Catedral de Panamá, also known as Cathedral Metropolitana, located in the historic Casco Viejo district of Panama City. It was built in the 1700’s but has undergone a major renovation along with much of the area’s old buildings. The towers on either side are covered with mother of pearl harvested from the nearby Pearl Islands. It sure makes the building stand out a bit from other cathedrals. source

This is Panama City’s Casco Viejo (Old City) district that was destroyed by the pirate Captain Morgan in 1671. It’s crumbling buildings represent early colonial Spanish, French, and Caribbean architecture. Much of Panama’s government is located here, including the Presidential Palace. Many of it’s historic structures are in the process of getting repaired. Squatters have called this area home for a long time — but now they’re getting kicked out in order for tourism to flourish.source
